Honor your elders. That is one of the greatest gifts we can give to those that came before us as well as to ourselves. The treatment of this elderly patient at St. Joseph’s Long Term Care Facility could use a reminder about that. They more than tarnished their credibility when four employees aggressively verbally and physically abused a helpless mother. It was all caught on camera over a period of three weeks. All four were fired.
The mother was placed in the facility so that her needs could be met when she could no longer do take care of herself alone. Staff seen in the video are not only showing neglectful care but worse yet abusive treatment like shoving a feces-covered cloth in her face. There is more. Two workers can be seen kissing and hugging while the mother lay awake, and one male staff member blows his nose on her sheets before changing the bed.
“We sincerely regret and apologize for the actions of the staff members in question and can assure you that their conduct is in no way condoned by St. Joseph’s at Fleming,” CEO Alan Cavell states.
The mom’s son has called for the removal of Cavell from his position of CEO.
