Trump says he is not isolationist during Merkel press conference

At a joint news conference at the White House with Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday (March 17), U.S. President Donald Trump maintained that he is a proponent of free trade and is not an isolationist.

The meeting between the leader of Europe’s largest economy and the U.S. president was billed as one that could help determine the future of the transatlantic alliance and shape their working relationship.

Trump said he expected the United States to do “fantastically well” in trade with Germany, while Merkel said she hoped the United States and the European Union could resume discussions on a trade agreement.
