UK Prime Minister Theresa May’s early election proposal moves forward

Theresa May was successful in her bid for an early election. The election should see the further strengthening of May’s power. British Parliament voted by 522 to 13 in favor of the early elections.

The early election could aid critical Brexit negotiations. The European Union does not want Great Britain to come out stronger after leaving and already plans to put up a fight. So the next few years are critical if the U.K. is to maintain its position on the world stage.

According to The Guardian one of the 13 MPs that voted against early election, Natalie McGarry, fainted in Parliament earlier. She later used Twitter to cite pregnancy as the factor, not the early election vote.

The snap election is scheduled to take place June 8.
