Queen Elizabeth celebrates turning 91

It isn’t odd to hear the strains of “Happy Birthday to You.”

It is a bit odd to hear the Band of the Irish Guard play it—except on one day of the year, the Queen’s birthday.

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth turned 91 on April 21.

Other than the having the band play, and a pair of artillery salutes at London’s Hyde Park and at the Tower of London, the Queen isn’t celebrating publicly.

Queen Elizabeth was born in 1926,  a few years after the end of World War I and took office in 1952, a few years after the end of World War II.

Elizabeth has been Queen of England since she was 26. She is the oldest and longest-reigning monarch in the world.
