“Look! Up in the air! It’s …. the king?”
King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands told De Telegraaf newspaper on May 18 that he occasionally flies for a commercial airline.
The king of Holland revealed in a newspaper interview that he occasionally flies for a commercial airline.
The 50-year-old monarch flew twice a month for the past 21 years, in order to keep his skills sharp and his pilot’s license current. He plans to train on the Boeing 737 next.
His subjects view his flying favorably.
Actually, it’s really cool that people didn’t know that he had a normal job,” said yoga teacher Meive Mattmann. “I think it’s quite nice.”
His subjects can even appreciate the mildly comic aspect of “The Flying King.”
Law student Vinicius said it would be funny to get on a plane find out that “the Dutch king was the one flying it.”
