Family of Teen Girl Found Dead in Freezer Seeking Answers

The family of 19-year-old Kenneka Jenkins is seeking answers as to why she was found dead inside a Chicago-area hotel freezer over the weekend.

Her body was discovered Sunday in a walk-in freezer at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Rosemont, CBS News reported.

Tereasa Martin, the teen’s mother, said her daughter went to a party on the night of Friday, Sept. 8, before she was reported missing.

After 11 hours of searching, hotel staff found the teen.

Investigators told the family surveillance footage from the hotel showed the teen stumbling around after drinking.

Her family disputed a claim that she got trapped inside the freezer by accident.

“The freezer door is heavy. I worked in a cafeteria before. It’s no way if she’s drunk, and they saying she’s stumbling, so she don’t have no strength,” her sister, Leonore Harris, told CBS. “That’s my baby sister. How can I live life knowing I’ll never see her again?”

Her official cause of death has not been released yet.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Rosemont Police Department investigators are reviewing a Facebook Live video that apparently shows her in a hotel room before she went missing. In the video, it appears to show a woman who looks like Jenkins sitting on a bed. The clip has been viewed millions of times and shared on Facebook.

“Yes, they’ve looked at it and continue to look at it and all the other social media videos and posts,” Rosemont Police Department spokesman Gary Mack said, “They are leaving no stone unturned as far as trying to corral everyone they can and talk to them and interview them about what happened and what was going on that night.”
