Rapper With Song ‘Sell Drugsz’ Gets Prison Time for Actually Selling Drugs

By Bowen Xiao

A Rhode Island rapper whose list of songs include one titled “Sell Drugsz,” is now facing prison time for actually selling drugs.

Michael Persaud, 32, also known as Montana Millz pleaded guilty in October last year to drug-trafficking charges, Fox News reported.

In a Nov. 29 Instagram post, Persaud said police were waiting outside his studio to pick him up.

He was later sentenced to a total of three years in prison on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018.

Persaud’s charges included five counts of distribution and one count of possession with the intent to distribute, according to Newsweek.

Prosecutors told Fox News that the rapper sold and delivered nearly three-quarters of an ounce of fentanyl and two grams of heroin to an undercover East Providence police detective.

Michael Persaud’s stage name is Montana Millz (Lebanon City (Pa.) Police)

His drug activity was recorded between the periods of October 2016 and February 2017. On at least two occasions, his girlfriend drove him to the drug delivery site.

During a search of a home in Providence—where the mother of one of Persaud’s children lived—police also seized an additional ounce-and-a-half of fentanyl.

The rapper’s lawyer, Matthew Smith, told the Associated Press that the sentence was “fair and just.” Prosecutors had asked for a prison term totaling six years.

Newsweek suggested that Persaud has three children, citing his Instagram account.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), fentanyl is a synthetic opioid pain reliever that is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine and is sold through illegal drug markets for it’s “heroin-like” effect.
