Scientist Study ‘Mars on Earth’ to Research Life on Other Planets

Scientists are studying a region of Earth they believe is very similar to Mars to research the possibilities of life on other planets.

They believe the Rio Tinto region holds uncanny similarities with Mars.

“This is like Mars because the kind of minerals that you find here have been reported on Mars,” said astrobiologist Ricardo Amils. “From the geochemical and from the mineralogical point of view, this is Mars on Earth.”

Scientists have studied the region for 30 years. The findings made at Rio Tinto have helped alter the skepticism about life on other planets held by the scientific community.

The European Space Agency and Roscosmos have a joint Mars mission planned for 2020.
