Legendary ‘Batman’ Producer Benjamin Melniker Dies at 104

By Epoch Newsroom

Benjamin Melniker, who was known as the producer of nearly every “Batman” movie and project, has died. He was 104.

Melniker’s producing partner, Michael Uslan, made the announcement that he died on Feb. 26.

Melniker produced the 1989 “Batman,” starring Michael Keaton, and then produced nearly every “Batman” project up until “Justice League.” According to EW, he had a credit on every “Batman” feature.

Melniker bought the rights to the DC Comics superhero along with Uslan in 1979.

According to EW, he worked at MGM for years, starting in 1939 before becoming executive vice president. He made deals for iconic films such as “Ben-Hur,” “Dr. Zhivago,” “2001: A Space Odyssey,” “Gigi,” and more.

In Uslan’s Facebook post, he said: “Ben was a humble man, never wishing attention. He turned down endless requests to write his book or do interviews about The Golden Age of Hollywood, especially in his latter years as he became the last mogul standing from that era. He owns the Hollywood record books as far as I can tell. He actively worked in the industry over nine decades, and this year will still receive on-screen credit past his 105th birthday. Not only was he active in the industry for 79 years, he was sharp right up until the last day.”

He’s survived by his son, five grandchildren, and a number of great-grandchildren.
