A wild animal that prompted not one, but two, 911 calls on the morning of April 12, including one claiming it was a tiger, turned out to be a large raccoon. Apparently, witnesses saw it roaming the streets of upper Manhattan.
The raccoon was described as a massive animal. Authorities euthanized it after catching it because it is considered a species that is capable of spreading rabies.
Reports of city-dwelling tigers have surfaced before. In 2003 authorities found a man with a tiger and an alligator in his Manhattan apartment. The animals were removed from the apartment and the man was arrested. The tiger was placed into an animal sanctuary in Ohio.
