Joshua Holt Tearfully Reunited With Family in US After Being Freed by Venezuela

This is the tearful moment American citizen Joshua Holt was reunited with his family after landing in the United States, just hours after he was unexpectedly released by Venezuela’s socialist government.

His wife, Tamara Belen Caleno, is also seen in the video, being welcomed by family.

Holt, a missionary, had been held without trial for nearly two years on a weapons charge.

His family says he was framed and the United States accused Venezuela of using him as a bargaining chip in sanctions talks.

The freeing of Holt came despite deepening U.S.-Venezuelan tensions, including the imposition of new U.S. sanctions on the country and refusal to recognize the May 20 re-election of Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro.

Following his safe return on Saturday, May 26, Holt and his wife were welcomed to the White House by U.S. President Donald Trump, who told Holt he had been “incredibly brave.”

“It’s amazing that you were able to take it … that was a tough situation,” Trump said at the Oval Office meeting with Holt and his parents.
