Buses provide showers for the homeless

Homelessness is everywhere in our world, and many do not always understand the depth of that kind of despair. All too often, we take for granted the simple conveniences we have when we have a place to live – like a shower. Mobile Showers for the Homeless in San Francisco is a free service offered by Lava Mae, a nonprofit organization with an honorable mission that they put into action.

Their mission is taking “Radical Hospitality to the Street.”

Specifically:

  • Transforming the way Communities see and serve people moving through homelessness.
  • Bringing critical services — delivered with an unexpected level of care that we call “Radical Hospitality” — to the street through programs such as our mobile hygiene service and our new Pop-Up Care Villages.
  • Shining a light on our shared humanity, driving innovation in programming, and inspiring collaboration, we are catalyzing change.

Lava Mae converts old donated city buses into mobile shower units for homeless people, bringing them health, hygiene, and humanity.
