Ex-con confronts cop who once arrested him. Onlooker is ‘speechless’ seeing his next move

A man who’d been imprisoned three times suddenly had the urge to look for police officers one day. When he happened to see the same officer that once arrested him years prior, he took it upon himself to approach him with a heartfelt request.

Edward “Doc” Amey, of Texas City, was a six-time convicted felon and was given a 5-year sentence in 2008 for possession of a gun. While working in the prison’s hog barn one day, he suddenly thought to turn over a new leaf.

“God, if you are real like everybody says you are, then will you get me out of this place?” he recalled on The Post Newspaper.

Doc was released in 2009 after parole and good behavior. He then got involved in “The Fellowship” church in Texas City and attended the Fellowship Bible College before earning himself an associate’s degree in biblical studies.

In 2015, Doc wanted to find police officers to pray for them.

“The last week-and-a-half God has really been giving me the urge to pray for police officers,” he told KHOU.

He soon saw Texas City Police Officer Salvador Chapa at a community cook-off during a weekend and walked up to him.

Doc said “thank you” to Chapa, the officer who arrested him years ago, and asked if they could pray together.

“God just been giving me the urgency to pray for police officers, the same police officers that arrested me. I just got an urgency to pray for them now,” he told ABC 13.

Their exchange was spotted by a local resident, Kevin Woods, who quickly snapped a photo and shared it on the Texas City Police Department Facebook page.

“I got to watch something so amazing I’m speechless. We are at a cook off and I see Sal Chapa get pulled away. I look over and they are in prayer,” Woods wrote.

“We should be seeing more of this in America.”

Officer Chapa was moved to see Doc’s positive turnaround in life, and even more so that he’d do something so heartfelt for him.

“Touched my heart. It touched my heart. The reason it did, it sounds like I’ve touched his heart and made a difference in his life,” Chapa said.

“I have not always been a friend to the police. I grew up selling drugs. I’ve been to prison three time,” Doc explained.

After the encounter, the two have now become friends.
