With the advent of the social media, more relationships are being formed and long-distance relationships are no longer a rarity.
Ilaria, a young Italian woman, met Dzulfikar from Batang regency, Central Java, on Facebook. They fell in love online and then agreed to get married. Ilaria saved money for two years so that she could travel to Indonesia to meet her groom and his family.
“For two years, I saved money I got from working in a restaurant in Italy just to come to Indonesia,” 21-year-old Ilaria said to The Jakarta Post.
After saving enough money, she told her parents of her plans and they gave her their blessings. She soon arrived in Indonesia and headed straight for her future husband’s home.
Little did she know that her presence would soon attract the attention of 23-year-old Dzulfikar’s neighbors. The confused neighbors called the police on seeing a foreigner in their little village.
The police arrived and questioned Ilaria’s purpose of visit. “We questioned her to determine her purpose in coming to Indonesia,” said Agus Windarto, the Batang police deputy chief who was present with three other policemen.
Dzulfikar then explained how social media had made it possible for them be together. According to the Netral news, the couple has tied the knot in May 2017. Such a happy ending to an unusual setting, proving, once again—true love has no boundaries!
