Man sees cops with pit bulls—when he realizes what they’re doing, he starts snapping photos

Whilst police officers are primarily responsible for maintaining law and order, it’s always heartening to see that soft and caring side of officers when they’re serving their communities. Two deputies in Florida, who were busy doing something a little different from an officer’s typical duties one morning, were spotted by a passerby—and their photos were shared with the sheriff’s office, and now today with the social media community.

At 4.30 a.m. one morning in October 2016, two Orange County deputies and an Orlando man found two dogs in the middle of the road near South Orange and Oakridge avenues. When they noticed how frightened the dogs were, they knew they had to help, especially when one of them was injured.

According to WFTV, the man, Patrick Hennessey, wrote in a Facebook post that he had found the pit bulls while on his way to work. They saw that one of the dogs had a bleeding paw, which they helped to patch up before the Orange County Animal Services arrived.

It was believed that the pit bull was injured by a vehicle.

“Between myself and the officers, we were able to wrap some gauze and my bandana around it and stop the bleeding,” he wrote. “She was very grateful and then we gave her and (the other dog) a beef stick that I had in my backpack.”

He also praised the officers “for all their help and compassion with these sweet animals.”

As the group was tending to the dogs, a passerby walked past and was impressed with what he saw.

Only identified as Adam, he wrote to the sheriff’s office to commend the officers’ actions, and also sent in the photos that he had taken of the deputies.

Adam wrote: “The deputies stood by with the dogs until Animal Services arrived … these pictures I took depict a loving nature from our deputies and will tug at any animal lover’s heart strings. Thank you.”

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office later posted the pictures to their Facebook page and identified the deputies, Deputy Boggs and Deputy Redd.

The post soon garnered lots of praise from Facebook users.

One user wrote, “From a pitbull owner I thank you for spending time with these sweet babies they are very beautiful dogs. You and fellow officer are just absolutely amazing!”

“Thank you so much Deputy Reed and Deputy Boggs. When you can extend a helping hand to not just humans, but other creatures as well, it says a great deal about your character,” another added.

Both the 2-year-old dogs were taken in by Orange County Animal Services and later named Liberty and Justice. They were both adopted shortly afterward.
