Not many children would be as lucky as this girl who had the opportunity to contribute to the birth of her baby brother and get the experience of a lifetime.
12-year-old Jacee Dellapena from Mississippi, recently got a once-in-a-lifetime experience to deliver her youngest baby brother with the help of the doctors at Baptist Hospital in Jackson.
Dr. Walter Wolfe assisting the labor process of Dede Carraway saw Jacee eagerly supporting her mother. He asked her if she wanted to deliver her brother herself.
“I started crying because I thought I wasn’t going to get to see him be born because I was too short,” she told MS News Now.
Dede said that Jacee wanted to be in the delivery room a few years ago to witness the birth of her younger brother but she felt that her daughter was too young to do so.
As this was the last child that Dede had planned, she and her husband allowed Jacee to be in the delivery room.
When the doctor saw Jacee crying, they asked her if she wanted to deliver the baby.
“Doctor Wolf said, ‘Why don’t you just let her suit up and deliver the baby?’ And I said ‘What? No!’” Dede recalled.
Jacee agreed eagerly and the doctor guided her through the whole birth process while her father filmed the special moment.
“I actually, like delivered him […] like I’ve played fake doctor before, but this is, like, the real thing, this is the real deal. I was really nervous,” Jacee said. She also got to cut the umbilical cord.
Though Dede was in pain as the epidural was not working, she felt that everything was worthwhile when she saw Jacee delivering the new baby who weighed 7pounds 6 ounce.
