Mom saves letter for 20 years—just before daughter walks down the aisle, she hands it over

Oprah Winfrey famously said, “Biology is the least of what makes someone a mother.” That’s certainly the case for this Mississippi mother. To tell her adoptive daughter how much she loves her, the mother penned a heartfelt letter and saved it for 20 years!

Eleven years after adopting her first child, Sherry Blackledge, of Laurel, Mississippi, met a woman who gave her a precious gift.

The woman delivered a baby girl in the maternity ward at South Central Regional Medical Center, where Sherry worked as a maternity nurse.

Before her labor, the woman had seen a planned adoption for her unborn daughter, but it fell through. However, later, she gave up her baby girl to Sherry—who wasn’t able to have children of her own—after learning how deep her love was for her adopted son, Brian, TODAY reported.

Sherry couldn’t believe she would have another child; hence, you could imagine how happy she was when she brought home baby Brooke in 1994.

“How awesome is [it] that God just let her stop in Laurel,” Sherry said. “We always wanted a little Brian and a little baby Brooke.”

To let Brooke know how much she loves her, Sherry picked up the pen to write her a letter.

“Our Dear Little Baby Brooke,” Sherry wrote when 18-month-old Brooke was asleep in her crib.

“Both my children are adopted,” Sherry told ABC News. “I just wanted them both to know how much they are loved.”

Sherry saved the letter for 20 years in her bedside table till Brooke’s wedding day in 2015.

Prior to Brooke’s big day, Sherry dug up the letter and had it printed on a piece of her old wedding gown.

On March 7, 2015, just before Brooke walked down the aisle, Sherry requested everyone to leave the room.

Alone with her daughter and the film crew, the devoted mother revealed this ultimate wedding gift—the letter!

Brooke teared up as she read the letter, written in neat, cursive script.

“As I write this you are sleeping soundly in your baby bed. You are 18 months old. We just want you to know how very much love and happiness you have brought to us,” part of the letter read.

“Brooke, we just want you to know that you are very special to us and that God picked you extra special and he sent you to Mommy, Daddy and Brian.”

“I had no idea the letter even existed. Of course I start crying,” Brooke said.

The letter made her nuptial special and unforgettable.

Going forward, Brooke, who was expecting a baby then, also plans to write a letter for her child when he/she walks down the aisle.

“With this letter being such a huge impact for me, I am not going to write just one,” said Brooke.
