Some parents are eager to know the gender of their unborn baby but other prefer to have a little surprise during birth delivery, like this mom from Georgia.
29-year-old Dara Crouch is already a mom to her three-year-old daughter. As a labor and delivery nurse, she decided to leave the gender a surprise for her second child. But, when a baby boy was born, she was shocked. Luckily, a photographer captured that priceless expression.
“I just knew I was having a girl,” Dara told TODAY in an interview. She thinks it’s impossible to have a boy since no one on her mother’s side of the family had given birth to a son in 50 years.
"IT'S A BOY!!!" Hands down the best reaction in 100+ births and 6 years of doing this! . . . . . . . #birthwithoutfear #featurememozi #lemonadeandlenses #uniteinmotherhood #birthbecomesher #empoweredbirthproject #thebirthhour #carriagehousebirth #clickinmoms #clickmagazine #letthembelittle #momswithcameras #momtogs #momtog #candidchildhood #cameramama #inbeautyandchaos #birthphotography #birthphotographer #birthphotogs #childhoodunplugged #thebirthnarrative
She said she felt “shock more than anything.”
Ker-Fox, a photographer and a family friend of Dara has taken over 100 birth photos since 2011. Speaking of Dar’s reaction, she said, “I’ve seen surprises, but Dara had by far the most genuine reaction.”
“Five minutes before it was time to start pushing, the couple again started thinking about the possibility of a boy,” she said. She also recalled how Dara responded the moment the midwife told her it’s a boy: “Oh my gosh! It’s a boy; I can’t believe it’s a boy!”
Being a nurse, Dara described how she feels at work and when she gave birth, “As a labor and delivery nurse you get the emotions going on in the room … you sometimes bond a lot when you’ve been taking care of someone for 12-plus hours. But nothing compares with the excitement I felt with Liam.”
The photos were later posted on the Facebook and Instagram page of Birth Without Fear.
