It was a very anxious moment for the mother with her new born child, sitting on her hospital bed, waiting and wondering to see how her older son, still a toddler himself, will react to the addition of the new born in the family.
The toddler had been at home, away from the mother, certainly being crowded with instructions on how he should treat his little brother. But no amount of instructions work when sibling rivalry comes to the fore. So obviously, the mother was extremely anxious and hoped for the best.
When the toddler finally reached the hospital, people all around, especially the mother was surprised at the way he walked into the room and just held the baby’s head and kissed. It was a beautiful moment for all to see the love between the siblings.
The toddler walks in and says ‘hi baby’ with a broad and loving smile on his face.
It has been widely observed that the older child tends to get very jealous in this kind of a situation. But this toddler proved all theories wrong. He connects with his biological brother so naturally that it leaves the mother baffled. There is a clear hint of the ‘big brother’ who will take responsibility and care of his kid brother, in future.
The display of brotherly bond and affection on the first meet, the warmth, the possessiveness and owning up to the role of a protector seems to dawn on the kid without anyone telling or teaching him. The hug is so enthusiastic.
This behavior of the toddler would have certainly put the mother’s mind to rest after watching the way the older child responded.
Bonds between blood relatives need no words. It happens naturally. After all…blood is thicker than water!
