Diego, a flame-point Siamese cat was the beloved 12-year companion of Iris Estrada Samaniego from California. He was an indoor cat, but one day in June 2015 he snuck out and got lost in unfamiliar territory.
For two years, Iris never gave up hope of finding her feline companion, and continued searching for Diego.
“I posted signs everywhere for over a year,” Samaniego said.
In her heart, she believed Diego was still alive, although the rest of the family had feared the worst.
“I was at work and in between patients, I’m a vet tech, something told me to look on animal friends of the valley website, which is odd for me,” she said.
She was searching on the site when a very familiar face showed up.
“After almost two long years I found my 13 year old cat! I can’t tell you how much joy this has brought our family,” she said.
Iris’ sister Crystal Sanmann said she feared Diego had been eaten by a coyote. She went to the animal shelter with Iris to identify the kitty, and then posted the video of the happy and emotional reunion online. It has astonishingly garnered over four million shares online since.
We all love a happy ending.
“Never give up on finding your animals. This is the best Christmas present she could have received,” said Iris’ sister.
Diego has made himself very much at home, and is again part of this loving family. The children were in raptures at the return of their beloved companion.
