This rickshaw puller saved a girl from suicide and 8 years later she returned the favour!

There are moments in our life when nothing goes right, everything seems to turn against us and sometimes it is those moments that change our lives. Recently, Bangladeshi photographer GMB Akash shared a picture of a rickshaw puller, Bablu Shekh, and his story. Shekh’s tale of finding his daughter is both heart-wrenching and uplifting! It only shows that good deeds never go unanswered.

Shekh and his wife yearned for a daughter but they were never blessed with one. A father to three sons, Shekh has been a rickshaw puller since 30 years. One morning he was hired by a man who was seeing off his daughter to college.”He requested me to be careful on the road. He told his daughter to hold the rickshaw tightly. Before we left he told me to go slowly so the girl may not get hurt,” he said while narrating his story to GMB Akash.

While they were on the way, Shekh heard the girl sobbing. She called someone on the phone after which her cries grew louder. He assumed that the girl had planned to elope with someone but was ditched. Shekh made sure to not look back at the girl and make her uncomfortable. She got down before her intended destination, left the money on the seat and headed straight to the rail tracks.

Shekh understood her intentions. He tried to not meddle in her life but the girl’s father’s words kept ringing in his head. He parked his rickshaw and ran towards the young girl. “I went near to her and requested her to go back with me. She yelled at me, called me uneducated stupid, in between she kept crying insanely. I was afraid to leave her in that empty place. I let her cry, as much as she wanted,” Shekh said.

It was after three hours that the girl could compose herself. Shekh dropped her back to her house thinking to himself that it was better to not have a daughter, all along the way. The girl told him to not tell anyone about the incident and to not come to that place ever again. Shekh never turned up in the area again.

Almost eight years later, he met with an accident and was taken to the hospital. When he opened his eyes he realized the same girl, whose life he had saved once, was treating him. She was accompanied by a senior doctor. She introduced Shekh as her father and said: “If this father did not support me in the past, I won’t be able to become a doctor.” Shekh’s happiness knew no bounds because he finally had a daughter now!

Bablu Shekh stopped that girl from taking her life. He gave her hope and in return got what he wanted the most, a daughter! His story is an example of the fact that we can find hope in the darkest of situations!
