Viral letter from mom thanks unknown child for playing and being kind to her disabled toddler son

At times the world seems so unfair, and not everyone is fortunate. But what is even more shocking is when people are cruel to someone because of their misfortune. Nevertheless, all hope is not lost when one comes across pure-hearted people. This mother discreetly photographed a boy with her physically disabled child while alone with him, and the story is heartwarming.

Katy Myers and her husband were blessed with a sweet son, Kaden. Not long after his birth, Katy noticed that Kaden was not developing at a normal rate and took him for a full medical examination.

Sadly, Kaden was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy stage 2, a serious genetic disease that weakens the muscles. His parents were given the tragic news that Kaden would never walk. He could learn to sit up, but it would be extremely difficult for him to do so.

This was completely heart-breaking for Katy and her husband, particularly because, although Kaden was physically disabled he was extremely smart and had an inquiring mind, and wonderful nature—and most of all he longed to play with other kids!

One day, while visiting a museum where Katy regularly took Kaden, she observed a young boy approach and interact with Kaden. The scene was so heartwarming she took a photograph of the scene.

Katy then posted it on Facebook with the following message:

“To the little boy at the science museum, I don’t know who you are, but thank you for being amazing. You let my son play and engage with you. You helped him pick up balls from the floor when you saw that he could not. You didn’t ask what was wrong with him or why he couldn’t walk, you just saw him. Kaden is a lot like you, he is very curious and wildly smart. He wants to know how everything works. Thank you for helping him turn the lever when you noticed he was too weak to do it himself. You will probably never see this but just by being you, you make this world better.”

The unknown boy’s acceptance of Kaden just as he was, and by treating him like any normal child, deeply touched Katy’s heart.

“I would like to tell his parents what an unbelievable caring son their child is, he treats everyone equally,” says Katy.

“It’s natural to question, but being treated normally does help,” the mother explained in an interview. This carefree time spent with a playmate where no probing questions were asked, was simply beyond compare.

Being seen as a normal kid, and to be treated as one, means a lot to this little boy, who has to fight daily for his survival.

It’s great that the world has wonderful souls like this kind young boy in it.
