Advocates call for an end to garbage generating single-use plastics

U.N. Environment Director Erik Solheim was on hand to support an end to pollution from single-use plastics. Single-use plastics are a major pollutant. Many bottles, bags, and food packaging never get recycled. They wind up on beaches and in seas.

Advocacy group Avaaz handed Solheim a petition with 1 million signatures. The petition seeks to end the use of single-use plastic within five years.
