Video Shows BMW’s 7-Story Fall From Texas Parking Garage

Police in Austin have released surveillance video showing a car plunging seven stories from a downtown parking garage and striking another vehicle as it lands in an alley.

The video released Thursday shows the car landing atop an SUV then rolling upside down onto the ground. Moments later, people run to help the driver escape.

KXAN reported the woman  driving the BMW mistook the gas pedal for the brakes and crashed through the garage barriers. She was seriously wounded from the crash.

The SUV’s driver wasn’t hurt. Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services officials said at the time that the woman was treated at a hospital.

Last September, a 24 year old man was unable to stop his car and drove off the top of the same parking garage. One of the cables of the garage wrapped around his wheel, leaving him hanging upside down in the driver seat.

Austin Code Department issued the garage a violation just days after the barrier cable incident, KXAN reported. They cited unsafe conditions with relation to the cable system.
