Vivienne Tam X ‘Monster Hunt’ at New York Fashion Week

On September 10, fashion designer Vivienne Tam showcased her Spring/Summer 2018 collection at NYFW. But this time, her theme was rather unique. The designer’s inspiration came from a popular movie called “Monster Hunt” and its sequel that will be released next year, “Monster Hunt 2.” The sequel will also star well-known actors such as Tony Leung Chiu-wai, Bai Baihe, Jing Boran, and Li Yuchun. For the runway show, even the movie’s producer, Bill Kong, attended New York Fashion Week to promote the collaboration between the film and Vivienne’s collection.

Vivienne Tam, Fashion Designer:  I am very happy to do this with this kind of inspiration. Because when I saw the movie, I really liked it and Wuba is such a great character. The message behind the character is like bringing the friendship, love and hope to the world. Yeah, it’s really, really incredible! And along with the beautiful landscape of the movie with the characters.

Kelli J. Bartlett was the lead makeup artist for Vivienne’s collection and explains the ‘natural beauty look’ for the models. And Guest Artist John Reyman lead the stylists in enhancing each model’s hair for the show.

There were a total of 40 looks in the collection with many outstanding pieces already eyed by the audience.

For the finale, Vivienne brought out one last surprise which really wowed the audience. It was a life size version of the character Wuba in the movie ‘Monster Hunt,’ which was the theme of the whole collection. The designer followed Wuba onto the runway along with some models receiving much attention and applause from the audience. Another successful show for Vivienne Tam rounds up this New York fashion week, which makes us anticipate what she will bring us at next season’s show.
