Los Angeles Police Department Sends 3 Harvey Weinstein Cases to the DA

By Zack Stieber

The Los Angeles Police Department has sent three cases of potential sex crimes by movie producer Harvey Weinstein to the District Attorney as of Thursday, Feb. 8.

The cases involve three different women accusing Weinstein of sex crimes.

Now the Los Angeles County DA’s office will review the cases and decide which, if any, warrant criminal charges, reported NBC News.

The cases come after two cases involving accusations against Weinstein were referred by the Beverly Hills Police Department late last year.

The three newer cases were referred to the DA on Feb. 1, but an announcement wasn’t made until a week later, the broadcaster reported.

While Weinstein has not yet been charged with any crimes, he’s being investigated for sexual abuse in California, New York, and London.

USA Today noted in December that 84 women have come forward to accuse Weinstein of crimes or inappropriate behavior that they rebuffed.

Actresses Heather Graham, Eva Green, and Salma Hayek are among Weinstein’s accusers.

“The D.A.’s office can choose to file a case or decline to prosecute, but it may also request further investigation or refer cases to the city attorney’s office for possible misdemeanor prosecution,” reported Variety.

The DA’s office launched a sexual abuse task force to evaluate cases involving Weinstein and other high-profile figures, such as director James Toback.

Weinstein has not commented on the latest development but has in the past denied any “non-consensual sex” took place over the years.
