Spring officially started on March 20, but in New York, it still felt like winter with snow coming from Winter Storm Toby.
“We hope for relief, especially when the calendar tells us that it’s really and truly spring,” said Emmy award-winning actor Michael Emerson, who was in Herald Square on March 27.
While temperatures haven’t gotten far above 50 degress, Macy’s in Herald Square isn’t waiting for warm weather to break out its spring flower show.
The annual show opened on March 25 and is called “Once Upon a Springtime.”
The whimsical theme plays on the storylines of beloved fairy tales, but with a flowery twist.
Visitors to the show can see some 200 different species of flowers, visit a Snow Queen’s Winter Castle, and see a fire-breathing dragon that melts the snow for spring.
“We’re happy that New York is getting ready for the blooming season of flowers, and we’re here celebrating it with New Yorkers from Texas,” said a tourist from Texas.
Macy’s flower show will run until April 8.
It’s open during regular business hours and is free to the public.
