A large crocodile was spotted wandering through the Florida neighbourhood of Key Largo this week.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office posted photos of the reptile on Facebook. They said that the crocodile was seen in the area of Largo and Vaca roads at about 5:45 a.m. on Wednesday.
Authorities said they contacted wildlife officers but the animal had fled before the officers arrived.
The police department is warning residents in the area to keep an eye on small pets and children when outdoors.
Sightings of the reptile are not uncommon. According to the Florida Wildlife Commission (FWC), crocodile population numbers are on the rise.
The FWC is the primary wildlife response agency in the state. They take the lead in almost all wildlife calls.
