‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Will Return for Another Season After Strong Fan Response

“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” will return for another season and possibly others after an uproar following the announcement of its cancellation.

Fox announced last week that it was canceling the half-hour comedy due to low ratings and other factors, including less time to air shows due to “Thursday Night Football” starting soon.

“Ultimately we decided we just didn’t have room for it and were trying we’re really happy its found a new home.,” Dana Walden, chairman and CEO, Fox Television Group, told Entertainment Weekly.

The Andy Samberg-headed show was set to air its series finale on May 20 but the strong fan response prompted another network to step in and take over the show.

NBC announced that it would take over “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” with a sixth season set to feature 13 new episodes.

NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt said that if he had known that Samberg was going to star, NBC’s studio, which produces the show, he never would have sold it to Fox.

“It was a missed opportunity for us from the beginning,” he said. “We jumped on it really quickly, and we’re thrilled to have it.”

“We’re all thrilled that one of the smartest, funniest, and best cast comedies in a long time will take its place in our comedy lineup,” he added.

People across Twitter, Facebook, and other platforms decried the cancellation of the show, saying it’s one of their if not their favorite show.

Because of the strong interest shown in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” it was reported that several major networks were interested in taking it over, including, besides NBC, Hulu, and Netflix.

Among those advocating for “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” to stick around was Mark Hamill, known for portraying Luke Skywalker in the “Star Wars” movies.

Terry Crews, who stars in the comedy, joked that Hamill used “the power of the force” to save the series from cancelation.

Along with former “Saturday Night Live” star Samberg and Crews, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” stars Andre Braugher, Melissa Fumero, Stephanie Beatriz, Joe Lo Truglio, Chelsea Peretti, Dirk Blocker, and Joel McKinnon Miller.
