Woman Does Unthinkable in Her Mugshot After Crash

By Jack Phillips

A Florida woman who appeared smiling in her mug shot is now facing manslaughter charges.

On Saturday, Angenette Welk, 44, turned herself into police after a deadly crash last week on Highway 27 near Orlando, Fox35 in Orlando reported.

Welk was driving her car when she rear-ended another one, smashing that one between her sedan and a tractor-trailer.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was unharmed in the accident.

Shiyanne Kroll, the driver of the other car, suffered minor injuries, while her mother, 60-year-old Sandra Clarkson, died days later.

“Our lives are changed forever,” Clarkson’s other daughter, Keonna Sciacca, told CBS News.

According to a GoFundMe page set up to help the family with funeral expenses, Clarkson was declared brain dead on Mother’s Day. She was taken off life support the next day.

Welk’s blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit at the time of the crash, according to police. She was initially released on a $10,000 bond, but was arrested again on Saturday after Clarkson died from her injuries.

Sciacca and Kroll said they were disturbed by Welk’s mugshot.

“That disgusts me and that means she has no remorse for what she did at all and I hope that judge sees that picture and says the same thing,” Kroll told CBS.

Welk’s lawyer tried to clear up any misconceptions about Welk after she took the smiling mugshot photo, which she said was taken after her initial booking.

“Mrs. Welk is a good-hearted person, a wife, mother and friend who is devastated by what happened,”  lawyer Stacy Youmans told local news website Ocala.com. “Her heart breaks for the Clarkston family.”

“It’s definitely wrecked our family forever, not just temporarily, this was a permanent thing that [Welk] did. … I can’t hug her, I can’t tell her, ‘Goodnight, I love you,’” Sciacca said, Click Orlando reported. “It’s destroyed us.”

“We didn’t get to spend any time with my mother. We have to mourn her death. She has no remorse. If she did, she would never get behind the wheel. She deserves no mercy,” according to Ocala.com

At the scene of the accident, Welk reportedly told police that she had gotten distracted after dropping her cell phone and trying to pick it up from the floor.
