A mother and daughter in Virginia came across a large black bear in a Suffolk neighborhood on Thursday night, May 24.
The mother said she saw the bear in a neighbors yard and called the police. The bear eventually made its way into the woods.
A city spokesperson said that it was not uncommon to see black bears in the rural part of the city, reported WTKR. She said bears are coming into the city in search of food.
She encouraged homeowners to do their part to minimize the number of bear encounters by securing their garbage, picking up pet food, remove bird feeder, and cleaning the outdoor grill often.
