A volunteer crew responded to a sinking paddle steamer 10 miles west of the Welsh island of South Stack on Friday, May 25.
Holyhead coxswain Tony Price said, “It was very sad to see such a lovely vessel sink like that, but fortunately no one was endangered and the lack of fuel on board meant there were no environmental issues.”

The crew was with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, or RNLI. According to the group’s website, the institution saved 558 people in 2016, the last year for which the statistics are fully available. During that year, the group also trained more than 6,000 people in lifesaving techniques and launched nearly 9,000 lifeboats.
