A medical examiner in New York has ruled that designer Kate Spade’s death was a suicide.
The city Medical Examiner’s Office said that Spade, 55, hanged herself Tuesday in her Park Avenue apartment in Manhattan, The New York Post reported. The examiner’s office didn’t release any more details about her death.
“I don’t know what happened,” 80-year-old Frank Brosnahan, her father, said on Wednesday, CBS News reported. “The last I talked with her, the night before last, she was happy planning a trip to California to look at colleges. She doted on her daughter.”
Brosnahan said that he knew that she was having troubles and that she was taking pills.
