In a desperate attempt to get out from the Twin Towers during the Sept. 11 attack, many people had jumped out of the collapsing buildings, and one of them was captured in a horrific moment on camera whilst he was plunging to his death.
On 9/11 when the Twin Towers were attacked, photographer Richard Dew happened to capture the heart-stopping moment when a man jumped out of the window. He was one of the estimated 200 people that jumped to their deaths from the Twin Towers, after being trapped inside.
The photo, which was titled the “Falling Man,” was published in New York Times the next day after the attack, and it was quickly labeled as “disturbing,” according to news.com.au.
Dew had photographed the man falling from the North Tower of the World Trade Center at 9:41:15 a.m., and it was believed that the man had been trapped in one of the upper levels.
The identity of the man remains unknown, although several attempts have been made to identify him. It was believed that he worked at Windows on the World, a restaurant at the top of the North Tower, but it was also possible that the man was an employee with Forte Food, a catering company.
Though the man’s identity will most likely remain unknown, the photo shows us the horror of the terrorist attack that occurred on that fateful day, and to remember those who died.
