Teen girl helps a deaf and blind man using sign language during their 6-hour-long flight

This dyslexic teen girl clearly reminds us how we must never forget our basic morals. Her genuine act bears a testimony to the fact that being compassionate under all situations is every human being’s fundamental nature.

Fifteen-year-old Clara Daly was on board an Alaska Airlines flight bound to Los Angeles from Boston; her mother, Jane, was traveling along with her. Clara’s six-hour-long journey transformed into a lesson on compassion for all the passengers when she volunteered to help a deaf and blind man.

Tim Cook, who’s both deaf and blind, was flying to Portland when the flight attendants announced via the plane’s intercom that they needed someone to communicate with him through sing language, reported CNN.

The little Clara, who has been studying American Sign Language (ASL), gracefully volunteered to help Tim. She used finger-spellings to selflessly assist Tim during the whole journey.

“I went to [Tim] a total of three times, once to get him water, another to tell him the time, and the last hour of the flight to just talk to him,” Clara told CNN.

This compassionate act was appreciated and noticed by almost everyone on the flight. A fellow passenger, Lynette Scribner, snapped photos of Clara and Tim when they were communicating through sign language. Later on, she posted them on Facebook.

Lynette wrote: “The flight attendants sincerely wanted to assist him [Tim], but had no way to communicate. I watched as they didn’t flinch when he reached out to touch their faces and arms.

“They took his hand and tried so hard to communicate with him, to no avail. He had some verbal ability, but clearly could not understand them.”

“That’s when this lovely young woman came into the picture. 15 years old, she learned ASL because she had dyslexia and it was the easiest foreign language for her to learn. For the rest of the flight she attended to Tim and made sure his needs were met. It was fascinating to watch as she signed one letter at a time into his hand. He was able to ‘read’ her signing and they carried on an animated conversation,” Lynette wrote.

“I can’t say enough about this beautiful young woman named Clara who didn’t think twice about helping her fellow passenger,” she added.

Meanwhile, the charming Clara told CNN that the response to her little act of kindness is “overwhelmingly lovely.” She said, “I hope this helps other people realize that in the world we are living in, it is everyone’s duty to help each other out, no matter what.”
