This sweet 8-year-old is on a mission: sharing hugs with cops in all 50 states

Sometimes, all one needs is a hug to make the day better, because a hug can do wonders. A little girl in Louisiana clearly knew this and is currently on a mission to brighten up police officers’ days.

A little girl, Rosalyn Baldwin, is currently on a mission to change the world, and how she does it is by giving out hugs to police officers in all 50 states across the United States.

“This came about as a result of the Dallas shooting,” her mother, Angie Baldwin, told CNN. “And it really amped up after Louisiana.”

Baldwin was referring to the killings of five officers in Texas in 2016 and the deaths of three more officers in 2017.

“We talked about it and we kind of explained to her that this is society, that this is the way things happen, but she said, ‘No, they need to know I love them,’” Baldwin recalled to CBS4.

“First she [wanted to hug officers in] all the nations in the world,” Baldwin said.

But Baldwin and her husband suggested that they start off by giving hugs at the police station near St. Tammany Parish.

“We took her around to a few officers to see if it would pass,” Baldwin recounted.

When Rosalyn showed no sign of backing down on her plan, Baldwin decided to help her 8-year-old daughter further her warm cause.

Since then, they have traveled to several states, such as Illinois, Missouri, Denver, and Ohio during the holidays and school breaks by using the donations funded from GoFundMe.

A website, Rosalynloves.com, was also set up to document Rosalyn’s journey.

“Rosalyn’s mission is to journey throughout the country as a beacon of light, love, and hope,” reads a statement on the website. “She wishes to unite communities by demonstrating her sincere love and appreciation, for those who have committed their lives to serving and protecting the people of our nation.”

How did Rosalyn feel after hugging the officers?

“I feel love, and I just love it,” she said. “I feel a big heart bouncing against me.”

Her love warmed the officers’ hearts.

“To have a young person like that really just share that love that she has for police officers, it really warms our hearts especially on a day like this when we are remembering those that we’ve lost,” Cincinnati’s police chief Eliot Isaac told WKRC.
