“I’ve never truly loved till you put your arms around me. And I believe that it’s easier for you to let me go.” These are the lyrics of “Arms” by Christina Perry, which a talented young songstress chose to sing for her dad on America’s Got Talent. She sang the song so beautifully it left the entire audience in tears.
Evie Clair is 13 years old, and hails from Florence, Arizona. She stepped onto the stage at America’s Got Talent and shared with the audience about how her father was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. She also shared that she sometimes sings “Arms” to him on “not so good days” to comfort him. She said that she was there to honor her father with the song.
“About a year ago, my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer,” she said. “They gave him a five percent chance to live…so tonight, I’m here to sing for him.”
Clair sang the song “Arms” like an angel. Her performance was so good that it earned her a great big “yes” from the judges to advance to the next round, and a standing ovation.
Sadly, Clair’s father, Amos Abplanalp, passed away on Sept. 7.
Clair wrote in a later post: “I hope I made you proud, Daddy, I’ve done it for you always and I’ll do it for you forever.”
Her father’s passing came only days before Clair was about to take the stage in the finals.
“The children burst into tears but are now at home laughing at old home movies of daddy and remembering our great love for the most wonderful man any of us have ever known,” Clair’s mother wrote on her blog. She stated, “Our faith in the Savior has grown today and our family has been strengthened forever.”
Mel B had these comforting words for Clair after her performance: “I think we forget that you’re only 13-years-old and you’re already going through so much, so I have to commend you on your courage and your confidence.”
