The kind deed of one Temecula police officer and two good Samaritans ended up making a big difference in the world—touching the hearts of thousands.
Police officer Bruce Pierson responded to a call on Nov. 8, 2015, about a suspicious homeless woman outside the Promenade Mall in Temecula, California.
The young lady, identified as Franki, according to Fox 5, was peering into parked cars. However, she explained to the officer that she was moving between cars simply to find shade.
The downtrodden woman said she hadn’t worn shoes for two months. “And then raised her feet up and showed me her feet, which were as black as my boots and calloused,” Pierson told ABC 13.
Franki, then 18, has been homeless since she was 12. She suffered from a miscarriage in 2014 and was living rough on the streets with her boyfriend and two dogs.
The teen’s tale of woe struck a sympathetic chord with Pierson. Instead of arresting her, the deputy brought her to the Promenade Mall. And what happened next was beautiful.
Realizing Pierson was helping Franki get shoes, a shopper offered to buy her a pair of shoes too. Another shopper, Joshuah Rounds, also chipped in to get her another pair of shoes.
Touched by their gesture, Franki teared up.
With the help of these good Samaritans, Pierson bought Franki two pairs of shoes, a pack of socks, a scarf, and a beanie to keep her warm during the winter. Amazingly, this beautiful act of kindness created a ripple effect!
The cashier at Payless Shoesource told the manager about Franki, and they gave Pierson a 30 percent discount.
That’s not all! Pierson’s wife, who heard of Franki’s plight, lent her a helping hand by buying her two large bags of dog food, several sweaters, and a blanket.
Pierson also arranged to meet Franki the next day at the same parking lot to give her a bag of clothes from his department.
“She was so thankful she couldn’t stop crying. So thankful we could help her and so glad the police officer on duty took time out of his day to go in the mall with her and buy her things we take such granted for,” Rounds wrote on Facebook, alongside photos of Pierson in the shoe store.
“So thankful our city is filled with helpful police officers,” Rounds added.
Speaking of his kindness, Pierson told KSWB, “It was the right thing to do … I would hope any human would do that.”
This heartwarming story of kindness eventually spread far and wide, touching the hearts of thousands, including those in Turkey!
Don’t underestimate the ripple effect of a simple act of kindness. You can make a big difference in the world by helping a fellow human being.
