Kidnapper snatches toddler from park, but gets chased by girl seen ‘screaming her head off’

A 22-month-old toddler was abducted in broad daylight when he was playing at a park with his older brother and sister. Thanks to his 8-year-old sister, who ran after the kidnapper whilst “screaming her head off,” along with her older brother and two other onlookers, the toddler was given up by the panicked kidnapper and reunited with his family not much later.

Little Owen and his two siblings were playing at a park by themselves near their babysitter’s house while their father, Michael Wright, was at work one Sunday in 2015. That’s when a stranger approached them, wanting to talk—then out of the blue, he suddenly snatched the toddler and ran away.

Seeing her little brother being abducted, 8-year-old Delicia immediately chased after the abductor, screaming as loudly as she could while running after the man. Owen’s 10-year-old brother, Brenden, can also be seen running after them, which was all captured by surveillance cameras.

“This little girl come running around the corner screaming her head off,” witness Dorothy Giddings, an antique store owner in downtown Sprague, told KXLY.

Delicia’s screams caught the attention of two teenage boys, Andrew Crain and Isaac Yow. The two brave teens started to chase after the suspect too.

Hearing the little girl’s relentless screaming, and seeing that he was being chased, the suspect dropped the toddler and attempted to flee. The two teens, Andrew Crain, 15, and Isaac Yow, 16, helped the two siblings get their little brother home safely.

“I told that little girl, I said, ‘Honey, you did exactly what you needed to do—scream your head off,’” said Dorothy, who also helped thwart the kidnapping. “That’s what saved that baby. Her screaming and us running.”

“I can’t explain the feeling, the anxiety and everything that goes into finding out your child is missing or something has happened to them,” said the kids’ father, Wright.

“How precious for your kids to do the right things on an everyday basis,” Wright added. “…especially the love that they have for their little siblings. It’s just awesome.”

“I’m feeling happy, I’m feeling angry at the same time,” said one of the two teens, Crain. “I do know the person.”

The two teens identified the suspect as their school classmate in disguise, who was described by the sheriff’s office as 6-foot to 6-foot-2, with a thin build, brown hair, and a mustache.

Four days later, the 15-year-old suspect was arrested and later sentenced to 56–70 weeks in juvenile detention.
