A golden retriever attracts much attention from passersby as he sits patiently with a sign around his neck in front of a busy Target shopping center. Without being tied to a leash, this disciplined pup waits faithfully for his master, while shoppers can only wish their own dogs were so good!
This 3-year-old dog, Jackson, became the envy of every dog owner who saw him just a month after he was rescued from a shelter by his new human “dad,” Steve Moore. He got a lot of attention while sitting outside a Target store in Altoona, Pennsylvania, as he waited for his owner to finish his shopping.
Shoppers coming and going must have been curious about this disciplined dog sitting so diligently. Upon reading the sign around his neck, written on a piece of cardboard, it was more than enough to garner their awe. It read:
“Dad told me to wait here”
For anyone seeing such a good dog trained so well (and looking so cute with that sign too!), few could resist giving him a pat on the head and offering a few words of praise. As Steve told WTAJ, “Everybody wants to take him home. I just find that amazing because four weeks ago, nobody wanted him.”
Every day, Steve had trained Jackson using treats as a reward, and one of the tricks he learned was to sit still and ignore distractions. Now, whenever they are out and about—especially in busy places—it is like a training ground; the more distractions there are, the better. Hiding out of sight, Steve would watch Jackson’s reaction and reward him accordingly. With much patience and effort, it looks like Jackson can now sit still through just about whatever a trip to the store with his owner can throw at him!
